Wardle Skyline Fell Race 2015

THE WARDLE SKYLINE Fell Race took place last weekend. The course started in Wardle Village and took a 7 mile loop around Brown Wardle, Middle Hill, Rough Hill and back round to the village.
This year the event attracted 186 runners, including tremendous support from Rochdale Harriers, Barlick and Calder Valley. Neal Crampton from Pudsley and Bramley lead the race from the start and gradually built on this lead as the race progressed. His winning time was 48 min 10 sec, with Simon Pymm of Saddleworth next in 49:53 and unattached Andrew Wainwright third posting 50:18.
Rossendale’s Lorraine Hopley overcame foot problems and put in a sprint finish to boot with a ladies’ winning time of 54 min 23 sec. Jo Buckley of Calder Valley just about managed to fend off Chorley’s Lynne Clough by six seconds to take second place. They clocked 55:29 and 55:35 respectively.
Richard Stirzaker was first finisher from Rochdale harriers, posting 54:44 and finishing 29th overall. Next from the Club were Paul Wolstenhulme (56:08) and Alex Frost (57:37). The Rochdale ladies squad was lead home by ladies captain Ann-Marie McGilvray who posted a personal best time of 63 min 21 sec and beat her husband by over three minutes. Anna Bromfield was next in 63 min 54 sec, also a personal best, followed by Jan Needham as the Club’s third lady (65 min 31 sec).
